Harnessing the Power of Self-Care: Shizuka’s Bold Swim for Mental Health Awareness

May 27, 2023

At Kaizen Remedial Massage Therapy, we champion continuous improvement, resilience, and the transformative impact of self-care. These principles were vividly embodied by Shizuka in the challenging Bondi to Watson’s Bay – South Head Rough Water swim event, that was held on Sunday 21st of May.

Covering a demanding 8KM in four hours, Shizuka swam not just for herself, but to shine a light on mental health. The funds raised from her extraordinary effort – over $2100 in less than two weeks – were gratefully received by Lilly Pilly Counselling. These funds will directly support a 10-week trauma-informed Yoga program starting this July, a vital initiative to help those facing mental challenges experience the healing power of exercise.

Despite not meeting the event cut-off time and facing the discomfort of swimming in a one-piece, Shizuka saw these experiences as lessons rather than setbacks. It’s this attitude that encapsulates the spirit of ‘Kaizen’ – viewing every challenge as an opportunity for growth and continuous improvement.

Shizuka’s endeavor goes beyond mere physical achievement. It is a testament to the power of self-care – regular exercise and massage – and the untapped fitness potentials it can reveal. Through her actions, she hopes to inspire everyone to realize their own capabilities and to never underestimate the impact of consistent self-care.

As we applaud Shizuka’s inspiring feat, we remain excited to share updates on the upcoming trauma-informed program. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and participation. Together, we can contribute to positive change, promote mental health awareness, and make a difference, one stroke at a time.
